Choices Have Consequences
I can unquestionably state that this life is not a dress rehearsal, but rather the real thing. It is an engagement and we must rise up to it. Since all of us are born with the gift of innate talents , we must do all that we can to fulfill these gifts. It is an opportunity which we have been given to execute it toward achieving success by helping others achieve their goals, building a comfortable life and security for ourselves and our families. Wayne Dyer, a well known author and speaker once said, ” when I chased after money, I never had enough. When I got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself, and everything that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous”. It has also been said that ” we make a living by what we get, and we make a life by what we give”. In essence, JOY IS FOUND WHEN WE GIVE OF OURSELVES. Thus, it is a choice we make.
In today’s unsettling business climate and difficult work environment (if you are working), we face obstacles to overcome, whether they be of personal or professional nature. Life is a culmination of excitement and disappointment, of hope and despair, of joy, tears and laughter. Careful assessment and proper analysis coupled with dedication, clear vision, and determination will help in overcoming life’s obstacles. No one in his right mind would say ” Life is easy”. Life demands that we make choices which tap our talents. Frequently, choices are influenced by our prejudices and attitudes. They are lessons in themselves. We will learn the outcome after they had been acted upon. In short, attitude, behavior, and actions toward our choices will be the influencers that produce consequences and results. Yogi Berra, the well quoted baseball player once said “when you come to a fork in the road, take it”. At first glance, it is comical . In essence what he was saying is simple. Make a decision; choose, or else, someone else will do it for you. You have a 50/50 chance to succeed. Doing nothing could guarantee a 100% failure.
Finally, it is no secret if we are to improve our professional careers, we need to focus on three crucial, important, and necessary areas: Technique, Behavior and Attitude. Our attitude drives everything while behavior makes things happen. To maximize our effectiveness, we need the tools to getting things done. The element of technique does that. Choose to succeed by making proper choices devoid of negative feelings and prejudice. There are exogenous circumstances or forces that dictate a certain response or behavior; but the ultimate outcome is predicated on how we respond to the circumstance. Choose to be pro-active. Chose to be a person of value; a part of the solution, not the problem.
